Crafty Numbers: How to Make Photo Collages in the Shape of Numbers (for Birthdays, Anniversaries & More!)

Party decor you don't have to take down!

Let’s be honest — there are only so many “Happy Birthday” banners one person can hang before it starts feeling a little… meh. If you’re looking to add a personal, Pinterest-worthy touch to your next celebration (without losing your mind), let me introduce you to one of my most loved DIYs: photo collages in the shape of numbers. They're easy, adorable, and full of memory-filled magic.

Whether it’s a 1st birthday, a sweet 16, a 30th anniversary, or your kid’s graduation year, these crafty number collages are always a hit — and way more fun than just scrolling through photo albums on your phone.  Plus, they can double as bedroom decor!  My daughter is 10 years old and still loves looking at and discussing these memories.

What You'll Need

Let’s Make It:

1. Pick Your Number(s) - Think: Age, anniversary, graduation year — whatever you're celebrating.

2. Choose Your Photos - Scroll back through the archives, the camera roll, Instagram — wherever your best memories live. These templates are designed for 3"x3" prints.  Instagram photos already cropped square are the easiest since they don't require further cropping or adjusting.

3. Lay It Out First - Before you stick anything down, arrange your photos on the foam board to see how they flow. I'm partial to chronological order but you do you!

4. Stick ‘Em Down - Once you’re happy with the layout, start sticking. Scotch permanent double-sided tape has worked best for me with the non-sticker photo prints.

5. Trim it up - Protect your work area with a cutting mat/cardboard and trim the edges with an exacto knife and ruler for guidance.

6. Display & Brag - Pop it up on a wall, use it as a party centerpiece, or just admire it while pretending your life is together. It’s giving sentimental and crafty queen.

Each collage measures 45 inches tall and 27 inches wide but they differ in number of photos needed.

Final Thoughts

This DIY is equal parts heartwarming and low-stress — my favorite combo. It’s a great way to celebrate a big milestone with a handmade touch that actually means something. Plus, it makes for a killer Instagram backdrop, just sayin’.
